Infidel - Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Infidel
Ayaan Hirsi Ali was interviewed on public radio a couple of weeks back about her book, Infidel. . It is the story of her life, from a childhood in Somalia to her present situation as a political refugee here in the U.S. traveling with bodyguards because of threats upon her life. She was once a member of the Dutch Parliament. She also made a movie with Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh, who was murdered on the streets of Amsterdam and left with a letter to Ali stabbed to his chest. The film was about Islam, a critique, to say the least.
Hirsi Ali has little time for Islam and this forms a current in the book. As a woman challenging the structures of Islam she is setting herself up for a world of hurt and trouble. The sheer disdain with which she was treated on the radio interview by male Muslim callers was pretty stunning, as was her reasoned, calm and thoughtful responses.
